SCADA Upgrade & RTU Integration for Reliable 20 kV Distribution Operations2026-10-01T03:34:34+00:00

Project Description

Syntek Energy & Control successfully completed a SCADA upgrade project at Gardu Induk (GI) Pasarkemis to enhance the monitoring and remote control capabilities of the 20 kV distribution network operated by PT PLN UP2D Banten.
The project was implemented to improve the speed and accuracy of operational monitoring, enabling information from 20 kV switchgear and feeders to be accessed remotely through the Master DCC Banten in real time.
By upgrading the existing SCADA infrastructure and integrating it with the existing RTU gateway system, the project supports more responsive distribution network operations and faster access to equipment status, alarms, and metering information.

SCADA Upgrade & RTU Integration

As part of the project, Syntek provided the SCADA facilities utilizing IED IO SAE FW5, integrated with the existing Moxa RTU GTW at the substation.
The integration enables data from the 20 kV switchgear to be acquired and transmitted to the Master DCC Banten, including:
– Equipment status
– Alarm information
– Electrical metering
– Remote monitoring data
This configuration enables the control center to access operational information from the substation in real time, providing greater visibility of distribution network conditions without requiring personnel to be physically present at the site.

Engineering Challenge

One of the key challenges was the tight project timeline, which had to be coordinated with the ongoing switchgear rehabilitation activities at the site.
In addition, the project required Syntek to integrate and program an existing Moxa RTU GTW platform, a system that had not previously been handled by the Syntek team.
Through its engineering capability and field execution, Syntek successfully completed the RTU programming and system integration within the required project timeline, ensuring the required status, alarm, and metering data could be read accurately and transmitted to the Master DCC.

Operational Benefits

Following the SCADA upgrade, PLN UP2D Banten can perform remote monitoring and operation of the 20 kV switchgear and feeders more efficiently through the Master DCC.
The availability of real-time information provides several operational benefits, including:
– Faster identification of equipment conditions and disturbances.
– Remote monitoring of 20 kV distribution feeders.
– Remote operation of equipment without requiring personnel to immediately access the site.
– Improved responsiveness during operational disturbances.
– More efficient access to status, alarm, and metering information.
This capability supports more responsive distribution network management while reducing the need for initial physical inspection when operational disturbances occur.

Syntek’s Control & Automation Capability

The successful implementation of the Pasarkemis project demonstrates Syntek Energy & Control’s capability in SCADA modernization, RTU integration, industrial communication, and remote monitoring & control.
By combining engineering expertise with practical field execution, Syntek continues to deliver integrated automation and control solutions that support the reliability, efficiency, and digitalization of electrical power systems.
